Gli appuntamenti di Luglio con le “Interviste di Nick“ iniziano con un’incontro speciale. Dopo aver conosciuto la band di Iacopo Ligorio & Le Canzoni Giuste, rompiamo una tradizione per un’intervista multilingue con una band straniera: i Cemment.

Questa formazione di genere Indeathrial Metal, vanta membri di lunga formazioni provenienti dalla terra del sol levante e con influenze di stampo sia orientale che occidentale. A rispondere alle nostre domande sono il cantante AVE e il chitarrista TAICHI, fondatori e simbolo dei Cemment. Ma dato che questa intervista e diretta ad un pubblico di tutto il mondo, andrò a presentare in breve e senza troppi fronzoli questa formazione, in lingua inglese.

Hi Guys, for those who don’t know me, I’m Nick, from “Le Interviste di Nick”. In my usual journey to discover emerging bands, today I’ve discovered the Japanese band of Indeathrial Metal known as “Cemment“. With great experience and talent, this year their last album “Resurrection From Carnage” has been released, a symbolic album that contains very significant tracks for the band.
Here with us, the two key members of the band, the singer AVE and the guitarist TAICHI are ready to answer our questions.

ITA: Iniziamo parlando del background: com’è cominciato il vostro percorso nel mondo della musica?

ENG: Let’s start with some question about your background: how did your journey into the world of music begin?

ITA: AVE: Ho iniziato a 19 anni, nel dipartimento di musica all’università. All’età di 20 anni, ho poi formato la Band Thrash Metal originale dei “VARAM” e ho iniziato la mia attività.
TAICHI: Ho studiato elettrone all’età di 5 anni, ma a quel tempo non ero molto interessato alla musica.
Quando avevo 13 anni, ho ascoltato i Van Halen e gli Europe, che un mio amico ha doppiato dal disco in una cassetta, e sono rimasto affascinato dal suono della chitarra. Mi piace anche la musica degli Accept, dei Metallica e degli Anthrax. così come i Whitesnake, Judas Priest e Ozzy Osbourne. Volevo suonare anche io quel tipo di musica e ho iniziato a suonare la chitarra. All’inizio facevo cover di band giapponesi, come Earthsaker, Loudness, Anthem. Ho iniziato a creare le mie canzoni originali quando avevo 15 anni. A 19 anni, sono stato invitato come chitarrista e sono entrato a far parte della band Thrash Metal dei “VARAM2 a Tokyo, dove AVE suonava in quel periodo. Dopo che la band si sciolse in circa un anno, volevo creare la mia band, e ho iniziato a creare la musica dei CEMMENT da solo dalla seconda metà del 1994.

ENG: AVE: At the age of 19 in the music department at the university.. At the age of 20, i formed the original Thrash Metal Band “VARAM” and started activities.
TAICHI: I studied electone at age 5, but at that time I was not very interested in music.
When I was 13 years old, I listened Van Halen and Europe, which my friend dubbed from the record to a cassette, and I was hooked on the sound of the guitar. I liked the music of Accept, Metallica and Anthrax too, and so the Whitesnake, Judas Priest and Ozzy Osbourne. I also wanted to play that kind of music and started playing guitar.
At first I made copies of Japanese bands, Earthsaker, Loudness, Anthem. I started to make my own original songs when I was 15 years old. When I was 19 years old, I was invited as a guitarist and joined the Thrash Metal band VARAM in Tokyo, where Ave was playing at that time. After that band broke up in about a year, I wanted to create my own band, and I started to create CEMMENT sound source alone from the second half of 1994.

ITA: Come avete scelto il nome per la band?

ENG: How did you choose the name for the band?

ITA: TAICHI: Osservando il dizionario. Ha scelto questo nome per via della forza, della durezza e della libertà dalla forma. Decise di evitare la pronuncia che ha un tono torbido e uno semi-torbido.
All’inizio era “Cement”, ma in seguito ho saputo che c’era una band con lo stesso nome nel Regno Unito, e ho deciso per “CEMMENT” come una parola nuova con una “M” in più.

ENG: TAICHI: While looking at the dictionary. I chose this name because of heviness, hardness, and freedom from shape. I decided to avoid the pronunciation which has a turbid point and a semi- turbid point.
At first it was “Cement”, but later I learned that there was a band with the same name in the UK, and I decided it as “CEMMENT” as a coined word that increased “M”.

ITA: Ci sono artisti che vi hanno particolarmente influenzato o ispirato?

ENG: Are there any artists who have particularly influenced or inspired you?

ITA: AVE: Gruppi come CASBAH (Giappone), JURASSIC JADE (Giappone), DESTRUCTION (Germania) e SOD (USA).
TAICHI: Accuser (Germania), Napalm Death (Regno Unito), Fear Factory (USA), Sepultura (Brasile), United (Giappone) e Outrage (Giappone). Come chitarrista sono stato influenzato da figure come John Sykes e Adrian Vandenberg.

ENG: AVE: Bands like CASBAH (Japan), JURASSIC JADE (Japan), DESTRUCTION (Germany) and SOD (USA).
TAICHI: Accuser (Germany), Napalm Death (UK), Fear Factory (USA), Sepultura (Brazil), United (Japan), Outrage (Japan). As a guitarist I have been influenced by figures like John Sykes and Adrian Vandenberg.

ITA: Come definireste voi e la vostra musica?

ENG: How would you define yourself and your music?

ITA: AVE: Vita!
TAICHI: Espressione interna. Il compito di convertire le cose invisibili in forme (suoni).

ENG: AVE: Life!
TAICHI: Internal expression. The task of converting invisible things into shapes (sounds).

ITA: Quanto è importante avere una forte identità musicale?

ENG: How important is it to have a strong musical identity?

ITA: TAICHI: Ognuno è solo una persona, quindi anche se simili, sono diversi da chiunque altro. Certo, gli amici sono importanti.
A volte mi sento sollevato nell’essere uguale a chiunque, ma spesso desidero una sensazione di sicurezza che sia la mia. Penso che lo stesso si possa dire per la musica. Questa potrebbe essere la mia identità.

ENG: TAICHI: Each one is only one person, so even if similar, they are different from anyone else. Of course, friends are important.
Sometimes I feel relieved to be the same as everyone, but I often ask for a feeling of security that is my own. I think the same can be said for music. That may be my identity.

ITA: Parliamo del vostro primo album “Per l’Amor del Cielo”. Cosa potete dirci su questo disco?

ENG: Let’s talk about your new album “Resurrection From Carnage”. What can you tell us about this record?

ITA: AVE: Si tratta di una concentrato dei Cemment!
TAICHI: Compreso il lavoro del revival, sono le musiche su cui ho contrato i miei pensieri, fino a 100 riff, finchè non li ho resi solidi. La musica e il caos si mescolano in breve tempo.
“Aztec Warrior” è stato influenzato dal mio rapporto con un amico, un fan di lunga data di Cemment in Messico. Sono anche interessato al calendario dei Maya. La parte del coro contiene anche la voce dell’ex membro Raita.
In “Screw ship” si può ascoltare la mia prima slide per i Cemment.
Sono tutte dedicate al defunto suocero che era un chitarrista blues. Nella canzone c’è un mix di note di tensione insolite e intense.
“Death Whistle” è una canzone sviluppata dalla dimostrazione fatta per il revival intitolato WWD (Weasel War Dance). Ci sono voluti 5 anni dal 2013 per diventare “Death Whistle”.
“Suffer” è la canzone che ha dato il via a questa band. Era l’anno 1994.
Ora mi sembra sentire strano che io sia stato aiutato dal me stesso di 25 anni fa.
Questo brano è stato completato dal senso artistico e dall’abilità eccellente del produttore Gianmarco. Sono onorato di lavorare con lui e di rilasciare il lavoro con la Agoge Records.

ENG: AVE: Is like a concentration of Cemment!
TAICHI: Including revival work, it is musics that I made my thoughts up to that 100 riffs, and from among them, made them solid. Music and chaos are mixed in a short time.
“Aztec warrior” has been influenced by my relationship with my friend, a longtime Cemment fan in Mexico. I am also interested in the Mayan calendar. The chorus part also contains the voice of the former member Raita.
In “Screw ship” you can listen to my first slide play at Cemment.
All my slide play is dedicated to the late father-in-law who was a blues guitarist. In the song there is a mix of unusual and intense tension notes.
“Death Whistle” is a song developed from the demonstration made for the revival called WWD (Weasel War Dance). It took 5 years from 2013 to become “Death Whistle”.
“Suffer” is the song that triggered this band. The year 1994.
Now, I may feel strange that I have been helped by the 25 years ago myself.
This sound was completed by the artistic sense and excellent skill of producer Gianmarco. I’m honored to be working with him and releasing work from Agoge Records.

ITA: Quale pensate che sia il vostro brano più rappresentativo?

ENG What do you think is your most representative song?

ITA: AVE: Forse “Suffer”? O anche “Manipulation World”?
TAICHI: Come già detto, “Suffer”. “Manipulation world” poi è una canzone registrata nel 2° album. Nel 1996, questo brano è apparsa anche in dei programmi televisivi giapponesi.

ENG: AVE: Maybe “Suffer”? Or also “Manipulation world”?
TAICHI: Likewise, “Suffer”. “Manipulation world” is a song recorded on the 2nd Album. In 1996, this song has also appeared in Japanese TV shows.

ITA: Cosa provate quando fate musica?

ENG: What do you feel when you make music?

ITA: AVE: Quando creo una canzone, mi sento benissimo, quindi è stupendo ascoltare me stesso.
TAICHI: Completa integrazione di se stesso con il suono emesso.

ENG: AVE: When i create a song, then I feel great, and so, it’s great to listen to myself.
TAICHI: Complete integration of itself with the sound emitted.

ITA: C’è qualche artista con il quale vi piacerebbe o vorreste avere l’onore di collaborare?

ENG: Is there any artist with whom you would like or would like to have the honor of collaborating?

ITA: AVE: Ad essere onesti, non ci avevo mai pensato.
TAICHI: Ovviamente gli attuali membri (anche membri di supporto), ma se c’è qualcuno interessato a noi, potrebbe accadere qualcosa di interessante ?

ENG: AVE: To be honest, i have never thought about it.
TAICHI: Obviously the current members (also support members), but if there is anyone interested in us, something interesting might happen ?

ITA: Quali sono i vostri progetti futuri? E che vette vorreste raggiungere?

ENG What are your future plans? And what peaks would you like to reach?

ITA: AVE: Sarebbe bello tenere delle esibizioni dal vivo in Italia e in altri paesi d’oltremare.
TAICHI: E lo penso anch’io. In Giappone, una performance dal vivo è decisa a novembre. Per ora non possiamo rilasciarne informazioni, ma solo prossimamente. Grazie!

ENG: AVE: It would be nice to have live performances in Italy and other overseas countries as well.
